Twenty Four Seven Is a Claim Somebody Will Dial at Three in the Morning

Twenty four seven is the only claim on your site a stranger can test at will, and the test is a telephone ringing at three in the morning while you are asleep. How you word it also bears on which firm is named when a customer searches for somebody who will pick up tonight.

The one claim that tests itself

Almost nothing else on your site can be checked before somebody hires you. Your certification is looked up, your cover is confirmed in a call to the carrier, and the rest waits for the job. Twenty four seven is different, because anybody can test it for free at the hour it is least convenient for you.

A caller who reaches voicemail has not concluded that you were busy. They have concluded that the line on your site was not true, and they dial the next company while the water is still moving.

Where the call lands when you are asleep

Something answers, and what that something is decides everything after it. It is your own mobile on the bedside table, or a technician on a rota, or a service that takes a message, or a service that can reach a technician and send one.

The only distinction that matters is whether the thing that answers can dispatch or can only record. A message taken at three and read at eight is a night lost, and a night is the difference between drying a floor and replacing it.

An answering service is not the problem

Plenty of competent firms use one and no homeowner minds. What loses the job is finding out at three in the morning that the voice on the line cannot send anybody and never said so.

Stating that your nights run through a service, and stating what that service is authorised to do, costs you nothing you were not going to lose anyway. The caller who needs a crew tonight and discovers they will get a callback at eight leaves either way. The one who reads it first and rings regardless has chosen you knowing the arrangement.

What to publish

Which hours are covered by your own staff and which divert, in local time. What the out of hours arrangement can actually do: take a message, reach a technician, or dispatch one. The realistic callback interval overnight, as a range rather than a single figure. Whether a call at three in the morning is charged differently from a call at three in the afternoon, because an out of hours rate is reasonable and learning about it at the door is not. An assistant asked who answers tonight can only pass on what a page states plainly, and twenty four seven on its own is not a statement it can use.

If the honest answer is no

Some firms do not answer at night and should stop implying that they do. Office hours stated plainly, with a first callback time in the morning and a note on what to do in the meantime, is a smaller claim and a keepable one.

A small promise you keep is worth more here than a large one somebody discovers at three. You lose the overnight emergency, which you were losing anyway once the phone rang out, and you keep the calls that come at eight without the review that begins with the words the website said.

The boundary of what we do here

SIMLL does not staff call lines, set rotas, run answering services or make any representation about whether any company answers its telephone. We sell none of it, and nothing on this page is legal or insurance advice. How a business covers its nights, and who picks up, is its own operational decision. Our part begins after that decision and is confined to whether it is stated in a form somebody dialling at three in the morning can rely on.

Whether anybody picks up decides whether the rest of your site is ever read, which puts it in front of what a sixty minute promise actually commits you to and how far a night crew will really travel. The call that does get answered then has to be told which kinds of loss you take. All of it sits inside how a restoration company actually gets found.

Frequently asked questions

Should we publish twenty four seven if a service covers our nights?

Yes, with the arrangement stated. Name the hours your own staff cover, say that the rest divert, and say whether the service can dispatch a technician or only take a message.

What if we do not answer at night at all?

Publish office hours, a first callback time in the morning and what to do in the meantime. A small promise you keep is worth more here than a large one somebody finds out about at three.

Does using an answering service cost us work?

Only the overnight job you were losing anyway when the message was read at eight. A caller who reads the arrangement first and rings regardless has chosen you knowing it.

Should we publish an out of hours rate?

Yes. An out of hours rate is reasonable and learning about it at the door is not. Publish it beside the hours it applies to.

What is the single thing to state about our night cover?

Whether the thing that answers can dispatch or can only record. That is the distinction the caller is testing, and everything else about your night cover follows from it.
