The Carrier Question and Why Both Answers Win Work

Carrier relationships are what a caller reaches for the moment arrival time is settled, and they are the part of the decision most restoration sites leave entirely to the telephone. Both answers to that question win work, and neither of them is on your site. Until one is, a customer who searches by insurer has nothing to go on, and neither does the assistant they ask.

Why the question arrives before the work does

A customer standing in water is not asking whether you are good at drying floors. They are asking whether this comes out of their own account or their policy, and they are using your relationship with their insurer as the quickest proxy available.

The question is about money and exposure rather than competence, so a page answering it with a paragraph about quality has answered something nobody asked.

What a carrier programme actually is

Carriers run programmes that route work to firms which have agreed a set of terms, and those terms differ from one carrier to the next. Being on one generally means an agreement exists about how you are dispatched, how you document, and what review you accept.

What it is not is a verdict on your workmanship. A page presenting a programme as an endorsement is claiming something the arrangement does not say.

The honest case for not being on one

A firm outside every programme has a stronger argument than most owners think, and almost nobody makes it in writing.

Working outside a programme means your scope is not shaped by an agreement with the party paying the bill, and that the property owner is the person whose instructions you follow. To a customer who has already had one uncomfortable conversation with an adjuster, that is not a consolation prize. It is the thing they were looking for.

Write it without attacking programmes, because the reader may have been sent to you by one. We are not on any vendor programme, we work for the property owner, and we bill the carrier where the policy allows it. Three facts and no complaint.

The sentence that does the most damage

We work with all insurance companies is the most repeated line in the category and it carries at least three meanings. It can mean you will bill any carrier. It can mean you have worked alongside adjusters from many carriers. It can mean you sit on the vendor programmes of several.

One phrase covers three different commitments, so a reader who wanted the third and got the first finds out late. Approved and preferred need the same care, because both imply a carrier has sanctioned you.

What to publish

Whether you are on any carrier vendor programme, and which, or a plain statement that you are on none. Which carriers you have billed in the past year, if you are willing to name them. Whether you bill the carrier directly or ask the customer to pay and reclaim. Whether you ask anybody to sign a document directing payment to you, and in plain words what it does. An assistant asked which restoration firms work with a particular insurer can only repeat what a source states plainly, and we work with all major carriers gives it nothing to name.

State what you do about the deductible: whether you collect it, when, and that you do not waive it if you do not.

Naming carriers, and the limit on it

A bare list of carrier names reads as a claim of affiliation, and affiliation is what you may not have. The fix is a sentence around the list rather than no list: these are carriers whose claims we have worked alongside, and it does not mean we act for them or are endorsed by them.

The boundary of what we do here

SIMLL does not negotiate carrier relationships, apply to vendor programmes, bill insurers, handle claims or advise on coverage, and makes no representation about any firm’s standing with any carrier. We sell none of it, and nothing on this page is legal or insurance advice. Which programmes a firm joins, and whether it joins any, is a commercial decision for the business and its advisers. Our part begins after that decision and is limited to whether it is stated in a form a customer can read before they call.

Your carrier position is half of what a customer asks about money, and the other half is how a claim moves from first notice to final payment. The cover you carry is answered in what your policy has to do before you touch somebody else’s property, and the commercial boundary below it is the smallest job you will send a truck to. All of it sits inside how a restoration company actually gets found.

Frequently asked questions

Should we publish which carriers we work with?

Yes. The question is asked on every job and almost nobody answers it in writing. Publish whether you are on any vendor programme and how billing actually runs.

What if we are not on any carrier programme?

Say so plainly and make the argument: outside a programme your scope is not shaped by an agreement with the party paying the bill.

Can we say we work with all insurance companies?

You can, but it carries three meanings: that you will bill any carrier, that you have worked alongside many, or that you sit on several programmes. Write the true one.

Should we name carriers if we have no affiliation with them?

Name them with a sentence saying these are carriers whose claims you have worked alongside and that you neither act for them nor are endorsed by them.

What should we say about the deductible?

Whether you collect it, when you collect it, and that you do not waive it if you do not. It is the next question after the carrier one.
